What is Custom Thermal Cycling ? Custom Thermal Cycling* is a form of cryogenic treatment performed by Performance Cryogenics. Webster defines cryogenics as "The science that deals with the production of very low temperatures and their effect on the properties of matter." Cryogenic tempering has been researched and developed by Universities and NASA since the mid-sixties after NASA discovered that deep space exploration vehicles had improved their structural integrity due to extended exposure to cryogenic temperatures. Our Custom Thermal Cycling is a one-time process. It is not a coating or surface finish that can be machined away nor will it make the material more brittle or change its physical size. In layman's terms, Cryogenic tempering finishes what heat treating started. There are four basic form of cryogenic treatment. Shallow Cryogenics subjects the
component to Flooding. Takes the components to
-120 degrees F Deep Cryogenic treatment subjects
the component Custom Thermal Cycling uses the
benefits of Performance Cryogenics' Custom Thermal Cycling utilizes 39 different computer controlled profiles to provide the "best" results for each component to be processed. (Different materials require different types of heat treating, this also applies to thermal cycling.) The proper profile is determined by the type of material, the desired results and the volume to be processed. These profiles provide an accurate and repeatable process insuring that the thickest cross section of material receives total treatment. Custom Thermal Cycling significantly reduces or eliminates damaging high frequency and harmonic vibration in metal components during operation. Processed components have shown an improvement in life as high as 300% with drastic reduction in micro cracking. For years the cryogenic process has been very time consuming and costly but due to recent technological developments it has become affordable for even the smallest of budgets with greatly reduced lead times The uniqueness of our Custom Thermal Cycling is that it greatly reduces the time necessary to complete the process thus making it even more cost effective. *Custom Thermal Cycling is a proprietary process of Performance Cryogenics. ..
